Last Gasp Heartbreak For Superb Llandudno
Rhyl Score Very Late Goal To Deny Llandudno All Three Points.
Town almost took a very early lead through Ben Jago after new signing Robbie Parry started a lovely passing move, and Jago’s shot hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced back out to be cleared by the Lilywhites defence.
Parry went close himself in the 19th minute. Some more neat football saw Danny Taylor set free on the right, and his excellent delivery found the head of Parry, but his effort was just wide.
Llandudno went on to dominate the half, limiting Rhyl to very few chances, and had a fair few of their own.
The clearest chance fell to Marc Williams just before half time. A fantastic ball from Mike Williams found Robbie Parry on the left, whose ball into the area was fed into the feet of Marc Williams on the edge, and his effort was expertly saved.
Mike Williams saw a powerful header cleared off the line, and Robbie Parry had a low shot saved, both in the first few minutes of the second half.
Danny Hughes saw a spectacular effort tipped over the bar 10 minutes into the half as Llandudno dominated Rhyl.
Marc Williams went down in the area under a challenge, and that was immediately followed by huge appeals for a penalty, but referee Tom Williams waved away the appeals.
After working hard for over an hour, finally Town opened the scoring. A great ground pass through the area found Marc Williams, who made no mistake in putting the ball past Lavercombe and made it 1-0 to Llandudno.
Llandudno pressed and pressed as they looked for another goal, but Rhyl broke Town hearts in the 89th minute as Stefan Halewood scored a header completely against the run of play.
And although Llandudno pushed hard for a winner it wasn’t to be, and it was another draw for the Seasiders. It was a bitter pill to swallow, as Llandudno had completely controlled the game from start to finish and should've been clear winners.
