Our academy is split into two with the Under 7s to Under 11s being in the Foundation Phase, whilst the older groups up to the U19s are set in the Development Phase
This article will be introducing the Development Phase coaches, from the U12s up to the U19s, telling you a bit about them and their qualifications.
Age Group: U12’s
Favourite Player: Stuart Pearce
In what will be Andy’s first season with Llandudno FC Academy he will leading the U12’s into their first competitive season. With extensive experience playing across North Wales particularly with Bangor City during one of their most successful seasons in the 90’s which finished with them winning the League Title. Andy has coached in the USA & Europe as well as being instrumental in the set up of Bangor City’s Academy alongside Mel Jones.

Favourite Player: Ronaldinho
Paul’s first season with Llandudno FC Academy will be spent assisting with our U12’s alongside Andy Bell. A former academy player with Llandudno, Paul now plays for local side Llandudno Athletic as well as working full time in football with Llandudno Football in the Community. His first season will be one of development and learning as he starts out on his coaching journey.
Age Group: U13’s
Favourite Player: Cristiano Ronaldo
One of Llandudno FC Academy’s longest serving members having been present at the first academy audit 8 years ago, Grant has been instrumental in making Llandudno Academy what it is today, his knowledge and expertise are unmatched, and his track record of developing quality youth players is impeccable. Grant’s playing career also backs up his coaching quality as he still holds the record for most goals in a calendar year for Llandudno FC.
Age Group: U13’s & GK Coach
Qualification: C-Certificate, GK B Licence
Favourite Player: Peter Schmeichel
Dave Guinn, who is also the Club’s Head Goalkeeper Coach as well as his role with the U13’s Academy, holds a stellar record in developing some of the strongest goalkeepers in Wales, As well as coaching the Wales Under 17 girls goalkeepers during his career. Alongside Grant Montgomery the U13’s hold one of the strongest coaching teams in our academy set up.
Age Group: U14’s, U15’s & Development Phase Lead
Favourite Player: Franz Beckenbauer
Clive is one of our longest serving academy lead coaches, instrumental in the formation and subsequent fruition of the academy, Clive remains one of the most respected coaches throughout North Wales. Clive’s playing history includes Bournville FC of the Midlands League where he remained for 17 years. His coaching career then took him to Championship outfits, West Bromwich Albion & Birmingham City before making the move to Wales in 2011 to be with Llandudno FC where he has been ever present.
Age Group: U16’s
Favourite Player: Paul Gascoigne
Simon, the NWCFA Grassroots Coach of the Year 2012, will be in his first season with Llandudno FC this year after moving to us from neighbors, Bangor City where he coached for 5 years. Simon’s playing history started at Wrexham FC as a schoolboy before moving into the Welsh Leagues with Cemaes Bay and Amlwch Town. A total of 12 years coaching experience puts Simon in a great position to lead our U16’s into their final Development year.
Age Group: U19’s
Favourite Player: Mark Hughes
Mark will be assisting with our U19’s squad in their Welsh Premier Development League campaign this year. A former player at Colwyn Bay & Connah’s Quay as well as coaching experience with Rhyl, Conwy United and being the current First Team Manager at local neighbours Llandudno Junction, Mark’s experience and knowledge will be invaluable to the U19’s.
Academy Position: Analyst
Ethan has run his own media production business for the last 2 years alongside winning ‘Entrepreneur of the year’ in 2019 (more info about EQMedia can be found here - www.eqmedia.site ). Ethan has been working with cameras all of his life and also completed his education at Coleg Llandrillo, finishing with a merit. Ethan will be a vital addition to the academy staff and will help to support the development of our players through the use of video and audio feedback. Ethan is also the videographer for the Llandudno FC first team.
