Roberts Rescues Point For Seasiders In Boxing Day Derby
Goalkeeper Roberts Denies Late Penalty In Goalless Draw
As usual we were treated to a festive derby day clash as we hosted Bangor City at The Giant Hospitality Stadium.
Iwan Williams made one change from the draw against Cardiff Met with Marc Williams back in the starting XI with Lee Thomas making way.
The game started tentatively with both sides a little wary to commit too much early on, with Bangor having the first opportunity on goal after 20 minutes with a long range effort which had a section of the ground celebrating only for it to have gone in to the side netting.
Llandudno responded with a long range effort of their own as James Joyce went on a marauding run through the middle of the park and unleashed from 30 yards, unfortunately it was always rising and didn’t test Hall in the Bangor goal.
With nearly half an hour played Bangor looked like they may have found the breakthrough only for Dave Roberts to pull off an outstanding save with his fingertips to push the ball around the post and keep the game level.
The first substitution of the game was made just after the half an hour mark as Sam Hart was forced off following a strong challenge he made early on in the game but struggled to shake off the knock. Ryan Edwards made his way on to the field and settled in the middle of the park alongside Hughes and Dix.
Llandudno finished the half stronger then as Marc Williams capitalises on an error at the back and strikes a half volley at goal from an angle, Hall leaves it in the Bangor goal but it’s half a yard past the post!
With the seconds counting down at the end of the half Cavanagh plays a terrific ball through to Toby Jones who is one on one with the keeper, but he strikes his effort straight at Hall! Golden opportunity to go in ahead at the break and the forward will be disappointed with his effort.
Llandudno 0 - 0 Bangor
The second half starts much like the first for the opening minutes but Llandudno then looked the more comfortable seeing more of the ball than they did in the first half.
Ex-Bangor man Shaun Cavanagh had the first real chance of the second half as he picks it up wide left and cuts inside to strike one from 25 yards and it’s not a bad curling effort but unfortunately it was a yard too high this time around.
Llandudno break from the back and as Marc Williams plays the ball wide to Cavanagh Town have overloaded the Bangor third, Cavanagh plays in Joyce on the overlap but he can only hammer his delivery behind the Bangor goal.
With just over half an hour played and Llandudno still on top Toby Jones delivers a delightful ball with the outside of his boot right on to the head of Marc Williams who is only 12 yards out but his header is well over and can’t trouble Hall.
Bangor find a break of their own following the header and Dean Rittenberg somehow eludes the defence following what looks like a positional error and his curling effort is goalbound only for Roberts to pull of another acrobatic fingertip stop!
Fantastic work from Aaron Hassall as he delivers a brilliant ball across the box and it eventually falls to Ryan Edwards at the back post and it only needs to hit the target but hid side footed attempt is nowhere near. Missed opportunity and it’s not the first one of the game.
With Llandudno looking the most likely it’s Bangor who break away and Demetriou the substitute is in on goal, beats Roberts but watches his effort crash off the post!
The ball isn’t quite cleared and Bangor come again, an effort is blocked in the area in the mass of players and the referee has seen a handball and it’s a penalty to Bangor with just two minutes normal time on the clock to go.
Demetriou takes the penalty but Dave Roberts saves! What a game the keeper is having for Llandudno and that’s the last chance of the match.
Llandudno 0 - 0 Bangor
