Whilst many of us had hoped it would be the case, it was nevertheless congratulations all round to Alfie Vaughan this morning when Osian Williams and Gus Williams announced the North Wales Regional Squad (for those boys born in 2005) - for the remainder of the current season.
Alfie a pupil at Rhyl High School, has been with our academy for the last eighteen months, and whilst always possessing an obvious talent has developed his game to the next level during his time at The Giant Hospitality Stadium.
He joined us as a left sided player who had spent his time playing wide left, although as Academy Director Clive Rushton explained there's more to be gained by playing Alfie in a more central role.
''I just thought with his range of passing and his ability to arrive late and finish in forward areas it was a logical place for him to play. He can play accurately short or long, and is also a ball winner out of possession.
We have some boys in our 13s who are clearly going to become players at a high level in a few years time, with Ethan Roberts already recently selected for the 2004 North Wales Academy Squad.
All of us within the club wish Alfie the very best as he joins up with the rest of the squad at next weeks first get together in Wrexham.''
