“He’s fitter, stronger and quicker than ever and has performed really well throughout. ”
Manager Iwan Williams
Llandudno Football Club are delighted to announce that long time serving midfield maestro Danny 'Jaggers' Hughes has been appointed Club Captain for the 2018/19 season before tomorrow nights curtain raiser against Aberystwyth Town.
The midfielder has enjoyed great success with the club lifting the Huws Gray Alliance trophy to earn the club its first ever promotion to the highest tier of Welsh football, and then topped off a great debut season by representing his hometown club in the UEFA Europa League against IFK Goteborg, scoring Llandudno's only goal in the two leg tie and ultimately becoming Llandudno's all time leading European goalscorer! All be him the only one!
Manager Iwan Williams had a tough decision to make with many strong characters in the changing room but explains his decision as to why Danny got the nod:
"Danny will captain us this year and lead us into the season on the back of a fantastic pre-season. He’s fitter, stronger and quicker than ever and has performed really well throughout. He’s taken to the role fantastically and with him being a local boy, I know how much this means to him. We’re hoping that this added responsibility takes him up another level which on the back of his pre-season campaign I’m sure it will. It is important to note though that we have a number of leaders within this squad with the likes of Kai Edwards, Mike Pearson, Shaun Pearson, Mark Connolly, Steve Thomas, Ieuan Hewitt, the list is endless, and we’re very lucky to have these types of characters, but after all the years service and the passion Danny has for this club, he fully deserves the armband."
We'll catch up with the new Captain before tomorrow night's opening clash in the JD Welsh Premier League to find out what wearing the armband means to him this season.
