League Opener Match Preview

Our 2018/19 JD Welsh Premier League campaign kicks off under the lights this Friday night as Iwan Williams’ men travel to Park Avenue with the challenge of taking on Seamus Heath’s Aberystwyth Town.

The curtain opener will see Llandudno manager Iwan Williams introduce himself into his first full season with the Seasiders, and will also present the opportunity for fans to come down and take a first look of how the new look team that the Manager has built will fair in the JD Welsh Premier League this season.

Last time out against Aberystwyth, Llandudno got a vital three points at the back end of a difficult season with a 1-0 win thanks to Llandudno FC’s Goal of the Season 2017/18 by Matty Williams at The Giant Hospitality Stadium.

We caught up with the Manager on getting the season underway and how he feels his first full pre-season with the club has gone:

“Pre-season has been great. The squad have really bought into what we’re trying to create here at the football club and I can’t fault their efforts. The desire, the belief and the mind-set has been developed and we have created a great environment here and I think that is slowly rubbing off on the supporters and the town as a whole as the following we had at Porthmadog was fantastic. I wanted a professional mentality balanced with morale and we’ve got it. To hear Webby’s (Alun Webb) comments on his interview in it being the best changing room he’s been involved in proves what we’re building and if we can take a mentality of wanting to work hard to one another into games then I’m sure we’ll do ok.

As for Friday we’re making the trip to Aber with a fully fit and healthy squad. The only absentee is Steve Thomas who is away on honeymoon. We’re looking forward to the game because this is what we’ve been building up to over the last six weeks. We’re going into a bit of the unknown, but we’re solely focussed on ourselves. We have a siege mentality and we want to start well however we know how tough the task is going to be as Aber is a very difficult place to go but have no doubts about it, we will be ready.”

Reminder that there is a Supporters Coach available going to the game on Friday night leaving Llandudno Football Club by no later than 4pm, so please be at the ground as early as possible.
